Colleen Nulty, M.S., L.P.C., Registered Play Therapist
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Play Therapist with many years of experience in working with children and their families. I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and Master’s Degree in Counselor Education and Clinical Mental Health Counseling from John Brown University. I am a licensed teacher and school counselor in Arkansas with over 35 years of experience in the education field.
I have experience in helping children to heal from trauma, improve family relationships, improve communication, increase mood management and to assist children to learn to positively respond to their emotions and learn appropriate coping skills.
My primary focus is in working with children (5 and up) and their families, but I also enjoy working with teens and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, life stress, life transitions, and grief/loss.
In working with children and their families, I believe that a positive client-therapist relationship and a strong working alliance is the key to success in therapy. I generally use play therapy as my main modality in working with children as well as cognitive-behavioral and solution-focused therapy. Play is a child’s first form of expression and it’s a very powerful way for them to grow and heal. Play meets the client where they are in a way that can make the counseling experience less intimidating and more fun. To quote Gary Landreth, “ Toys are used like words by children, and play is their language.” I am also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Conscious Discipline.
I accept BCBS and self-pay.
